Christmas decoration

mariska | 29 December, 2006 20:13

In november I showed my mother a magazine called Cotton time magazine. There was a Christmas decoration in there that she loved, so I decided to make it for her.
Cotton Time is a japanese magazine with a lot of things that you can craft for your house, mainly sewing projects. I ordered my copy at amazon.co.jp.

It was a lot of work, but my mother was really happy with it:)
Especially finding al the different fabrics etc. was difficult. I changed the original design a bit. I think the whole thing was about 20 cm ( about 8 inch).

New jewelry in my shop

mariska | 22 December, 2006 23:14

During my holiday in Venice I bought these great handmade beads. They are made with Murano glass and pure silver. They are real eyecatcher.

Murano glass is made on the island Murano, a small island next to Venice. Venice was amazing, very romantic city. There are no cars allowed in the city, they wouldn't even fit. Venice is one big maze full of little streets and canals. It is very easy to get lost there. Luckily it isn't very big :).

Here are some of the necklaces I made with the venetian beads.
I have more colors in my shop.

Half a circle skirt sewing tutorial

mariska | 19 December, 2006 15:16

Tutorial for skirt with lining:

 half a circle skrit

Note: Colored fabric on these pictures is the right side of the fabric.
Note 2: I'm dutch, so there can be some mistakes in the text.

Make a pattern using a measuring tape.

tw = waist.
so the first circle is 1/3 of your waist minus 1 cm.

Hold the beginning of the measuring tape at the black dot and turn the end to make a nice circle.
Cut the pattern out of folded fabric. Keep on side at the fold.
Add 2 cm at the waist and open side, add 4 at the bottom.

Sew from the bottom till the zipper. Turn it around and iron in your folds from bottom to top.

Sew in the zipper. I pin the zipper first to make the fabric overlap the zipper. Then I turned the skirt and handstitched the zipper clossest peace of fabric. Remove the pins and sew!

Now make an inner skirt (the same way as you made the outer skirt). Sew it on the zipper the same way, but then on the other side and further away from the zipper. This picture is how it looks after sewing, if you want to sew the zipper to the innerskirt you have to have the wrong sides out.

To make the top put the skirt inside out, with the right sides to eachother and put a waistband in the middle.
I pinned it, handstitched it and then sewed it.
Turn the dress and sew over the innerskirt and the waistband.

To finish the bottom I folded the 4 cm twice and pinned, handstitched and sewed.
Finish off your seams with a zig zag stitch.

Tadaaa!

Sanrio swap on craftster.com

mariska | 09 December, 2006 17:34

A few months ago I joined crafstser.org, ( A few days after I bought my first sewing machine) Craftster is an amazing forum for crafters. Every craft is discussed there.

There is also a lot of swapping going on there. The first swap I joined was the "Hello Kitty and friends swap". link You had to choose your favorite sanrio character so someone could make you things based on that character.

My swap partner choose Chococat and friends, a very cute character. I made her a keychain of one of the friends of Chococat. And a wallet with a Chococat picture and a Chococat polymer clay figure.
